Woman faces child neglect charge after boy wanders outside

PORT ST. LUCIE — A woman was arrested on a child neglect charge this afternoon after police found her sleeping in her bathroom and the boy she was baby-sitting wandering outside, a department spokesman said.

A witness told police the 2-year-old boy was found on a canal bank behind a business plaza with two alligators in the water, police spokesman Officer Thomas Nichols said this afternoon. The boy was only wearing a dirty shirt, according to a police report. Police searched the area and found an open door at a home nearby.

When police got to his babysitter’s house in the 2300 block of Southwest Seafury Lane at around 2 p.m., they found 26-year-old Brandy Albright sleeping on a toilet, Nichols said.

Man arrested on cocaine charges accused of abusing dog

A Port St. Lucie man faces an animal cruelty charge after police searched his home and found a dog with open wounds — some exposing bone — in his home.

Robert Hester, 48, faces cocaine trafficking charges after allegedly selling $1,650 worth of the drug to an undercover officer on Monday. He was arrested that day following the sting.

When Port St. Lucie police later searched his home in the 2200 block of Southeast Shipping Road, they found marijuana, 38 live rounds of ammunition in the master bedroom and dirty cages with dogs inside, according to a police report.

There were three dogs in cages, and one on a leash, police spokesman Officer Thomas Nichols said.

Police looking for home invasion suspect who threatened elderly man’s life

PORT ST. LUCIE — Police are searching for a burglar who they say broke into an elderly couple’s home on Sunday and threatened to kill the 76-year-old husband.

At about 10 p.m., the couple was in their family room watching television when the man burst into the home in the 2200 block of Southeast Seafury Lane, Port St. Lucie police spokesman Officer Thomas Nichols said.

The man demanded cash and threatened to kill the husband unless the 64-year-old wife handed over cash, Nichols said. When he got the money, the suspect fled, Nichols said.

No one was injured in the incident.

Police looking for driver who hit bicyclist

PORT ST. LUCIE — A bicyclist is in critical condition after he was struck by a vehicle last night.

John Mejias, 19, was heading north in the 1900 block of Floresta Drive when he was struck from behind, Port St. Lucie police spokesman Officer Thomas Nichols said. Mejias, of Port St. Lucie, fell, hitting his head on a concrete driveway, Nichols said. (more…)

PORT ST. LUCIE — A Port St. Lucie man faces felony charges after police say he was filmed burglarizing a car, taking a laptop, an iPod and other items.

On Saturday Sean Wallace, 19, broke into the car left parked on Upton Street by police.

The car was a department-owned “bait car” – a vehicle armed with video cameras ready to film anyone who ransacks it, police spokesman Officer Thomas Nichols said. (more…)

PORT ST. LUCIE — A Fort Pierce police officer ended up in the St. Lucie County Jail tonight after being arrested on charges of stalking his ex-girlfriend.

Troy Giovengo, 42, a school resource officer with the Fort Pierce Police Department, was arrested by Port St. Lucie police tonight in the driveway of his ex-girlfriend’s home in the 1100 block of Southeast Proctor Lane, said Port St. Lucie police spokesman Tom Nichols. (more…)
