Fort Pierce man shot in genitals trying to save mom from pistol-whipping attacker

FORT PIERCE — About 6 p.m. Tuesday, the U.S. Marshall Fugitive Task Force arrested David Jerome Brown, 48, of the 500 block of North 27th Street in connection with a Monday night attack on a woman and shooting of her son.

Brown was apprehended at the corner of North 27th Street and Avenue G without incident, said Fort Pierce Detective Ben Thayer.

The male victim was shot in the genitals and his mother pistol whipped Monday night in a suspected domestic-related incident before the attacker fled in a pickup truck, according to a police report released Tuesday and a sergeant.

Rural Indiantown to get high-tech fiber optics

Indiantown’s home-grown telephone company is about to invest big bucks to link fiber optic lines to homes in the central Martin County community.

ITS Telecommunications Systems Inc.
got an $8 million loan this month from the Rural Utilities Service, a division of the U.S. Department of Agriculture that makes sure people living in the country have access to electricity, water and telephones. (more…)

Lights out for Fort Pierce commissioner who refuses to pay utility on time

FORT PIERCE — City Commissioner Reggie Sessions, perhaps the most vocal critic of the Fort Pierce Utilities Authority, hasn’t been paying his utility bills on time for the past year, records show.

And to help Sessions remember to pay his bills, the utility has been giving him preferential treatment, including special calls from the utility director’s office and customer service. These services aren’t generally extended to the utility’s other 28,619 customers, utility officials said.

Sessions, who lives in a 1,200-square-foot home on North 22nd Street, said he hasn’t been paying his bills on time in protest of “high rates.”

Utility work to close traffic lanes in Palm City

Telephone utility work in Martin County will temporarily close a few lanes and sidewalks along some Palm City roads in the next several weeks.

From Wednesday through Dec. 26, Southwest Fifth Terrace and Southwest Dyer Point Road will experience intermittent lane and sidewalk closures.

From Dec. 22 through Jan. 12, Southwest Mapp Road at Southwest Dyer Point Road will experience intermittent lane and sidewalk closures.

From Dec. 22 through Jan. 12, Southwest Mapp Road at Southwest Murphy Road and Southwest Matheson Avenue will experience intermittent lane and sidewalk closures.

Lane closures will occur between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. weekdays. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to use caution through these areas.
