Officials: St. Lucie County jail inmate dies of heart attack

FORT PIERCE — An inmate at the St. Lucie County jail died of a heart attack early this morning in his jail cell, sheriff’s officials said.

Glenn Hedrick, a diabetic, did not respond when called to have his blood sugar taken at about 4 a.m.

His cellmate told St. Lucie County sheriff’s deputies Hedrick, 54, wasn’t breathing, according to a sheriff’s report.

When a deputy when to check on him, Hedrick was cold to the touch, the report states.

Paramedics pronounced him dead at 4:13 a.m.

Port St. Lucie man accused of breaking into former girlfriend’s home

— A 21-year-old Port St. Lucie man was charged with felony burglary Saturday after allegedly breaking into an ex-girlfriend’s home, an arrest affidavit released Sunday said.

Enrique Wilber Sandoval, of the 600 block of Southwest Pueblo Terrace, allegedly broke into the victim’s home, the report said. The victim arrived at her home with her new boyfriend, the report states. According to the affidavit, Sandoval, who had moved out two weeks earlier, allegedly walked out of the victim’s master bedroom and said, “You left me for him?”

The affidavit said Sandoval allegedly “bumped” into the new boyfriend as he was leaving the apartment.

Port St. Lucie man accused of sexual battery on a child

A 40-year-old Port St. Lucie man was arrested Thursday on charges of sexual battery on a child, according to an arrest affidavit released Sunday.

Walter James Geiser, address unknown, was arrested at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the 25 block of Orange Avenue in Fort Pierce on seven counts of sexual battery on a child, the affidavit said.

He remained in the St. Lucie County Jail on $300,000 bond Sunday.

According to the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, the victim is now 17 and came forward with the information with her mother earlier Thursday. The mother told detectives she believed her daughter and that Geiser was a friend who previously lived with the family in Maryland and Florida.

According to the report, the victim said the abuse started when she was 7 or 8 years old and the last encounter occurred in June 2007. The victim said she did not come forward sooner with the information because Geiser had threatened her.

Detectives asked the victim to call Geiser, who allegedly admitted over the phone to the sexual abuse, the affidavit said. The call was recorded by the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, the report said.

Police: Man arrested for fight, but violence continues on ride to jail

FORT PIERCE — A man was arrested on a battery charge after allegedly getting into a fistfight on Tuesday night.

But the violence continued even as 37-year-old Franklin Vaughn was on his way to his jail cell.

Shortly before 7 p.m., Fort Pierce police were called to a home in the 600 block of South Seventh Street where Vaughn had been allegedly arguing with a 47-year-old man.

The homeowner told police the two were fighting over the older man’s girlfriend after he heard Vaughn talking to her. (more…)
