A 40-year-old Port St. Lucie man was arrested Thursday on charges of sexual battery on a child, according to an arrest affidavit released Sunday.

Walter James Geiser, address unknown, was arrested at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the 25 block of Orange Avenue in Fort Pierce on seven counts of sexual battery on a child, the affidavit said.

He remained in the St. Lucie County Jail on $300,000 bond Sunday.

According to the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, the victim is now 17 and came forward with the information with her mother earlier Thursday. The mother told detectives she believed her daughter and that Geiser was a friend who previously lived with the family in Maryland and Florida.

According to the report, the victim said the abuse started when she was 7 or 8 years old and the last encounter occurred in June 2007. The victim said she did not come forward sooner with the information because Geiser had threatened her.

Detectives asked the victim to call Geiser, who allegedly admitted over the phone to the sexual abuse, the affidavit said. The call was recorded by the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, the report said.
