Stuart woman surprises 6-foot burglar in her home; purse, shoes, swords missing

STUART — A resident of The Crossings apartments in the 3600 block of Gatehouse Circle walked into her apartment Saturday at 3:45 p.m. and surprised a burglar in her home.

The suspect, a black male, 6 feet tall and with a medium build was wearing a gray T-shirt and black shorts, according to Sgt. Martin Jacobson of the Stuart Police Department.

Fort Pierce police nab man suspected in 20 burglaries or attempted burglaries

FORT PIERCE — A man who police have said could be responsible for 20 burglaries or attempted burglaries of occupied homes since March was arrested Tuesday afternoon.

Police, with the help of a U.S. Marshals Service task force, apprehended Derrick L. Hickman, 33, for whom investigators obtained an arrest warrant in connection with a May attempted burglary in the 1600 block of Havana Avenue.

Investigators suspect Hickman could be responsible for 19 other burglaries or attempted burglaries, Fort Pierce police Sgt. Dennis McWilliams has said.

Woman robbed at gun-point in Stuart

STUART — Police are looking for a suspect in an armed robbery that took place overnight.

A 31-year-old woman reported being robbed at gun-point at 1:25 a.m. in the parking lot of Harbor Breeze Apartments in the 1200 block of Palm Beach Road.

The woman told police she was leaving a friend’s apartment along with another friend when a man approached her while she was sitting in her car preparing to leave. The suspect brandished a dark semi-automatic handgun and told her to give him her purse, she said.

The suspect was tall, thin, wearing dark pants, and covered his face and head with a dark shirt.

Woman held in Jensen Beach attack on 82-year-old

JENSEN BEACH — Detectives arrested a woman accused of attacking and robbing an elderly woman outside a Jensen Beach restaurant Saturday afternoon, according to documents released Monday.

Kristen Beth Swift, 23, of the 2300 block of Northeast Indian River Drive, has been charged with robbery by sudden snatching and battery on a person over 65 years of age.

The incident took place in the 3400 block of Northwest U.S. 1 at 2:40 p.m., just after the 82-year-old woman had parked her car in a handicap space at Olive Garden. Swift pulled up behind the woman’s car and asked her for directions to Indian River Drive, the affidavit says.

Body ID’d as Sebastian woman missing since September

SEBASTIAN — Police announced that a body found last month is that of Marcia Hulihan. State officials confirmed her identity through dental records. She had been reported missing in September.

According to TCPalm.com, authorities won’t be able to determine why Marcia Hulihan’s place of death was a watery canal just north of her apartment complex. Police do not suspect foul play in the case, but the state Medical Examiner’s Office was unable to say how the 50-year-old woman died.

$1,400 in panties reported stolen out of Victoria’s Secret store

JENSEN BEACHMore than 150 panties were reported stolen from a Victoria’s Secret store on Tuesday.

An employee at the Treasure Coast Square mall lingerie store told Martin County Sheriff’s deputies said she noticed a woman with a large purse browsing through the store’s panty drawers at about 8 p.m.

The woman was wearing blue jeans and a brown shirt and was described to be about 5-foot-9, 200 lbs. and between 40 to 50 years old.
