Man accused of shooting at truck on I-95, killing pup inside, in Port St. Lucie

PORT ST. LUCIE — A man accused of shooting a pickup truck on Interstate 95 — killing a German shepherd puppy inside — faces a felony charge in a case that remains under investigation, according to a police spokesman and a report obtained Thursday.

Andy Phillips, 22, is accused of firing two shots around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday at a Toyota Tundra pickup with two people and the puppy inside as it headed south on I-95 near Southwest Becker Road.

The victims, Laritza Y. Fontela, 19, and 20-year-old Yosdany Rodriguez, are from Miami, and Fontela said they were in Port St. Lucie visiting relatives. The assailants reportedly continued south in a Toyota 4Runner after the shooting. (more…)

Second Beagle with Parvo found staggering in Lake Park traffic

A second Beagle, suffering from Parvo, was found staggering in traffic in Lake Park, very close to the location where a mother Beagle and her puppies were found April 17.

Kay-Lynette Roca, executive director of Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary & Hospital, said Tuesday that the male Beagle brought to Safe Harbor and the female Beagle that was found last week have matching collars and seem to know each other.

“Parker, the male Beagle dog that was found in traffic in Lake Park, looks very similar to the Beagle mom who is now fighting for her life. I’m afraid there may be a backyard breeder in the Lake Park area who is neglecting these dogs and tossing them out.”

11-year-old arrested in theft of pitbull puppy

PORT ST. LUCIE — A mother and her 11-year-old son face charges stemming from the theft of a pit bull puppy after police say the boy stole the dog from a woman in their neighborhood.

Rosheena Rucker, 29, told police that a group of boys had gone to her backyard on Sunday to check out the seven pit bull puppies she had for sale.

After the 11-year-old boy left, Rucker said she counted the puppies and realized that one of them was missing. She said the puppy was worth $1,000.
