Raid on Sebastian home turns up 3,000 illegal pills, stolen auto parts, police say

SEBASTIAN — Police investigators said they uncovered a criminal enterprise involving ill-gotten prescription drugs, out-of-state pill smuggling and stolen auto parts when they searched a home last weekend.

Investigators spent 30 hours searching an undisclosed home late Friday and most of Saturday, said Sebastian Officer Steve Marcinik, police spokesman. Eight investigators recovered more than 3,000 pills with a street value of $60,000, as well as $6,500 worth of stolen property and $4,500 cash, investigators said.

“This shows a direct link between theft and the illegal prescription drug business,” Marcinik said.

Man accused of shooting at truck on I-95, killing pup inside, in Port St. Lucie

PORT ST. LUCIE — A man accused of shooting a pickup truck on Interstate 95 — killing a German shepherd puppy inside — faces a felony charge in a case that remains under investigation, according to a police spokesman and a report obtained Thursday.

Andy Phillips, 22, is accused of firing two shots around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday at a Toyota Tundra pickup with two people and the puppy inside as it headed south on I-95 near Southwest Becker Road.

The victims, Laritza Y. Fontela, 19, and 20-year-old Yosdany Rodriguez, are from Miami, and Fontela said they were in Port St. Lucie visiting relatives. The assailants reportedly continued south in a Toyota 4Runner after the shooting. (more…)

Fort Pierce man shot in genitals trying to save mom from pistol-whipping attacker

FORT PIERCE — About 6 p.m. Tuesday, the U.S. Marshall Fugitive Task Force arrested David Jerome Brown, 48, of the 500 block of North 27th Street in connection with a Monday night attack on a woman and shooting of her son.

Brown was apprehended at the corner of North 27th Street and Avenue G without incident, said Fort Pierce Detective Ben Thayer.

The male victim was shot in the genitals and his mother pistol whipped Monday night in a suspected domestic-related incident before the attacker fled in a pickup truck, according to a police report released Tuesday and a sergeant.

Woman dies in Port St. Lucie crash

Police have identified the woman killed in a two-car crash Thursday afternoon in southwestern Port St. Lucie.

Zeny M. Silva, 55, was riding in a blue minivan headed east on Southwest Penrose Avenue around 4:45 p.m., said Port St. Lucie spokesman Thomas Nichols. The driver of the minivan, 54-year-old Nelcy Da Silva, ran a stop sign at the intersection with Southwest Rosser Boulevard.

A red Ford pickup driven by 44-year-old Carlos Molina north on Rosser Boulevard hit the passenger side of the minivan and flipped it over onto its hood. Zeny Silva died at the scene and the driver of the minivan , Silva, was flown to St. Mary’s Medical Center by helicopter, Nichols said. Molina was not injured, Nichols said. Rosser Boulevard has been shut down by the wreck.

Deputies arrest suspect in two home invasions

JENSEN BEACH — A Jensen Beach man faces felony robbery charges after telling deputies he broke into people’s homes and stole money in order to buy crack, deputies say.

Jeffery Servidio was at the Martin County Jail on $52,750 bail this morning after encounters with two elderly Jensen Beach residents last week.

One 89-year-old woman told Martin County Sheriff’s deputies a man had pushed her inside her home in the 1200 block of Northwest 21st Street after she answered the door New Year’s Day morning, according to sheriff’s reports.

The man ran off in a white pickup after she screamed for help, she told investigators.
