Second Stuart car dealership reports theft of vehicle tires

STUART — Vehicle tires were reported stolen from another auto dealer this week.

On Thursday morning, police were called to Carl’s Buick, Pontiac, GMC on U.S. 1 where tires and wheels from two sports utility vehicles had been stolen, according to a news release.

The SUVs were left sitting on blocks, spokesman Sgt. Marty Jacobson said. Other vehicles were found on blocks with the equipment still intact while there were also vehicles found partially on blocks, Jacobson said.

The value of the property stolen and damaged was in excess of $6,500.00.

On June 19, an officer found four trucks sitting on wooden blocks at the Advantage Ford dealership on U.S. 1.

Man beaten, left unconscious during robbery dies

STUART — The victim of a brutal beating on Sunday night that left him on life support has died, according to police.

The man and teen accused of kicking and punching him to unconsciousness Sunday night now face murder charges.

Keith A. Hall, 38, had been kicked and punched unconscious during a Sunday night robbery. He died at Martin Memorial Hospital on Wednesday after being removed from life support shortly before 5:20 p.m., police spokesman Sgt. Marty Jacobson said.

Hall was robbed outside the Right Way convenience store in the 1800 block of Palm Beach Road at 9:35 p.m.

Witnesses reported to police that Stuart residents James Louis LaForteza, 29, and Kobe Anderson, 15, had beaten the man into unconscious, according to police reports. Both were arrested early Monday morning.

Hall had been trying to buy drugs when he was robbed and beaten, police said. Sunday was also the day Hall had been released after being incarcerated for the past year on marijuana possession charges, according to state Department of Corrections records.

STUART — The man who was kicked and punched until he was unconscious during a Sunday night robbery has been identified by police as Martin County resident Keith A. Hall.

Hall, 38, remains on life support in an area hospital, Stuart police spokesman Sgt. Marty Jacobson said.

Hall was robbed outside the Right Way convenience store in the 1800 block of Palm Beach Road at 9:35 p.m.

Witnesses reported to police that Stuart residents James Louis LaForteza, 29, and Kobe Anderson, 15, had beaten the man into unconscious, according to police reports. Both were arrested early Monday morning and now face robbery and attempted murder charges.

STUART — A Martin County man is on life-support after a beating that left him unconscious on Sunday night.

Police say the 38-year-old man was robbed of $40 outside the Right Way convenience store in the 1800 block of Palm Beach Road. Stuart police responded to the parking lot at 9:35 p.m. after they got a call that the man was beaten, according to police spokesman Sgt. Marty Jacobson.

The man, whose name has not yet been released, was trying to purchase drugs at the time of the robbery, Jacobson said.

Witnesses reported to police that Stuart residents James Louis LaForteza, 29, and Kobe Anderson, 15, had beaten the man into unconscious, according to police reports. One woman driving by told the pair to stop when she saw them standing over the man, kicking and punching him on the ground, police said. She and another witness then performed CPR on the man until medics arrived.

LaForteza and Anderson both face charges of robbery and attempted murder.

Stuart police investigate man’s assault rifle to check if it was used in Sunday shooting

STUART — A convicted felon arrested Sunday in Sewall’s Point for having a loaded AK-47 type assault rifle in his possession is being investigated by Stuart police, who are checking if the weapon was used in a drive-by shooting reported earlier that night.

Deshawn M. Norwood, 21, was arrested by Sewall’s Point police after the red 1998 Chevy he was riding in was pulled over shortly before 3 a.m. on Sunday.

Police had stopped the four-door car because one of its headlights was out, Sewall’s Point police Chief Eric Cerniglia said. After police noticed that Norwood, who was sitting in the back seat, was making furtive movements, they asked him and the two others in the car to get out, Cerniglia said. In the back, police noticed a loaded AK-47 type assault rifle where Norwood had been, Cerniglia said.

Police: Man, 75, tackles 230-lbs. thief

STUART — A 75-year-old man helped police nab the six-foot-one, 230-lbs. thief who allegedly stole his laptop outside Best Buy on Sunday.

The man was outside the electronics store on U.S. 1 at about 12:15 p.m. with his laptop and printer, waiting for his wife to pick him up at the curb, Stuart police said. (more…)

Two check-cashing stores discovered burglarized

STUART — Police are investigating the burglaries of two check-cashing stores discovered this morning.

At about 7:45 a.m., Stuart Police were dispatched to a report of an open door at the rear of the Advance America Cash Advance at 2170 S. Federal Highway.

The arriving officer discovered a forced entry, police spokesman Sgt. Marty Jacobson said. (more…)

Motorcyclist severely injured in Stuart crash

— A motorcyclist was severely injured when an automobile made a U-turn in front of him on the southbound lane of U.S.1 north of the Roosevelt Bridge, said Sgt. Martin Jacobson of the Stuart Police Department.

“The motorcyclist suffered multiple broken bones but we think he will make it,” said Jacobson. “It wasn’t his fault. A woman driving in front of him suddenly turned around in front of him and he T-boned the vehicle.” (more…)

Police looking for suspects in gas station burglary

STUART — Police are looking for a pair suspected of stealing $6,000 from the office of a convenience store over the weekend.

A man and woman walked into the Shell gas station at 837 N.W. U.S. 1 at about 3:30 p.m. on Saturday to commit the burglary, police spokesman Sgt. Marty Jacobson said.

Video surveillance shows the woman slip into the back of the store, police said. She then breaks into an office and makes off with cash, police said. (more…)
