Wednesday, April 15th, 2009 by Ana X. CeronFORT PIERCE — The girlfriend of a man arrested in connection with a robbery last month is behind bars herself after investigators say the couple talked on the phone in code about selling prescription pills to bond the boyfriend out of jail.
Kayla Newton, 21, faces a charge of conspiring to sell oxycodone after she was allegedly heard asking Roy Dillard where he had hidden a “shoe” that could help hire an attorney for him.
“I need more clues,” Newton told him, according to a St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office report. “The shoe could help you, Roy.”
