Former Sebastian River High teacher takes battery plea deal

— A former Sebastian River High School teacher won’t face molestation charges after a Circuit Court judge accepted a settlement deal late Wednesday.

The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office in May charged Aaron Scott Fusselman, 26, of the 7900 block of 100th Avenue, Vero Lake Estates, with a lewd and lascivious act on a person between 12 and 16 years old. The charge followed the accusations of a 15-year-old female student, authorities said. (more…)

Long ER waits inspire doctor’s clinic

As an emergency room physician at Martin Memorial Medical Center, Dr. Michele Libman saw patients every day with minor ailments - ankle sprains, minor cuts, respiratory illnesses, ear infections - who spent hours in the ER waiting room waiting to get treated.

Some were uninsured and didn’t have a doctor. Others had coverage, but either didn’t have a local doctor or couldn’t get a quick appointment.

“I definitely saw a need for another option to help people get quick treatment,” said Libman, a Long Island native who moved here in 2000.

So two years ago, Libman founded Treasure Coast Urgent and Family Care in the lobby of a medical office building on Monterey Boulevard. During the winter season, when the local population swells with snowbirds, the spacious clinic handles about 50 patients a day. The clinic is open every day, including 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekends. Nurses are on staff and another physician handles weekend shifts. (more…)
