More arrests made in St. Lucie cocaine, marijuana ring, sheriff says

FORT PIERCE — The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of two more people who detectives say were involved with a marijuana and cocaine distribution ring, including the brother and mother of a man already charged with being one of the ring’s leaders.

On Saturday, deputies arrested Victor Tapia, 27, of the 1700 block of Angle Road in Fort Pierce and Michael Clifford, 33, of the 4800 block of North U.S. 1 in Fort Pierce on charges of felony marijuana possession with intent to sell, felony marijuana possession, felony criminal intent to solicit or conspire and misdemeanor possession or use of narcotic equipment. Fort Pierce man accused of trafficking in cocaine

— A 27-year-old Fort Pierce man was charged with multiple drug felonies Saturday afternoon and admitted he and a partner trafficked marijuana from Texas to Florida, according to the county Sheriff’s Office arrest affidavit.

Victor Tapia was arrested at his home in the 1700 block of Angle Road after officers used a search warrant to find 132 grams of cocaine and 7 grams marijuana. (more…)

Officials: St. Lucie County jail inmate dies of heart attack

FORT PIERCE — An inmate at the St. Lucie County jail died of a heart attack early this morning in his jail cell, sheriff’s officials said.

Glenn Hedrick, a diabetic, did not respond when called to have his blood sugar taken at about 4 a.m.

His cellmate told St. Lucie County sheriff’s deputies Hedrick, 54, wasn’t breathing, according to a sheriff’s report.

When a deputy when to check on him, Hedrick was cold to the touch, the report states.

Paramedics pronounced him dead at 4:13 a.m.
