Second Beagle with Parvo found staggering in Lake Park traffic

A second Beagle, suffering from Parvo, was found staggering in traffic in Lake Park, very close to the location where a mother Beagle and her puppies were found April 17.

Kay-Lynette Roca, executive director of Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary & Hospital, said Tuesday that the male Beagle brought to Safe Harbor and the female Beagle that was found last week have matching collars and seem to know each other.

“Parker, the male Beagle dog that was found in traffic in Lake Park, looks very similar to the Beagle mom who is now fighting for her life. I’m afraid there may be a backyard breeder in the Lake Park area who is neglecting these dogs and tossing them out.”

Stuart dog poisoned by antifreeze

— A Stuart woman is hoping her 4-year-old dog will make it through the week after it was poisoned by antifreeze.

Betty Skel’s red-and-white Corgi named Bear drank blue antifreeze Wednesday afternoon after someone placed the fluid into the dog’s outside bowl, she said. (more…)

Eleven spend the night at Fort Pierce shelter

FORT PIERCE — Eleven people trickled into the Fort Pierce Community Center Wednesday to spend the night as temperatures dipped into the 30s.

For the fifth night this year, the center had been turned into a temporary cold weather shelter for the homeless.

This morning, the folks who took refuge awoke before dawn to fold blankets, down some hot coffee and layer on their sweaters and flannel shirts. (more…)
