Man who claimed diplomatic immunity pleads guilty to false pretense

PORT ST. LUCIE — The Port St. Lucie man who claimed that he could not be stopped by police because he had diplomatic immunity pleaded guilty in federal court today to a charge of falsely pretending to be a diplomatic officer of the United States.

Steven Wayne Morrow of Port St. Lucie was pulled over by police in a traffic stop on Nov. 20 because he had a tinted cover over the license plate of his Gold Chrysler van. Morrow, 44, told Port St. Lucie police officers that he was a U.S. diplomat and could not be detained for any reason.

He then presented a “Head of State” identification card and a badge inscribed “Ambassador-Diplomat.” (more…)

Police: Man uses fake ID, tag to claim he’s a diplomat

PORT ST. LUCIE — A man claiming to be a diplomat is behind bars after police say he flashed a fake badge to get out of a traffic ticket.

Steven W. Morrow was driving a gold Chrysler van when he was pulled over on the morning of Nov. 20 for having a tinted cover over his license plate, police said.

As Officer Joseph Byrne approached him on Southeast Wild Meadow Circle, Morrow, 44, flashed a gold-colored badge and said he was a United States diplomat, police said.

When asked for his drivers license, registration and proof of insurance, Morrow allegedly told police he had diplomatic immunity and didn’t need to provide documents. (more…)
