A 16-year-old Stuart youth will likely begin a 25-year prison term in October after pleading no contest to second-degree felony murder Tuesday.

Kobi Buchae Anderson, of the 900 Block of Southeast 13th Street in Stuart, was 15 when he delivered a single fatal blow to the side of Keith Hall’s head in April 2009.

Boy, 6, dies in SUV rollover crash on I-95 in Indian River County

A 6-year old boy died Tuesday evening after a sport utility vehicle he was traveling in rolled over on Interstate 95, about three miles south of the Sebastian/Fellsmere exit.

About 6:50 p.m., a small SUV traveling north on I-95 veered off the road into the median at mile marker 153, said Lt. Tim Frith, Florida Highway Patrol spokesman. (more…)

STUART — Information released Tuesday by the State Attorney’s Office paints a tragic and dramatic picture of events leading up to the Aug. 4 crash on Cove Road in which three teenage boys were killed.

The Florida Highway Patrol reports, interviews with witnesses and photos provide evidence that Nicholas Coady and Christopher Briglio, both 18, and Connor Graver, 16, had been drinking before they arrived at a party at the Palm City home of assistant South Fork High School baseball coach David Wayne “Bubba” Harper, 28, and Craig D. Man dies after Saturday night shooting in Fort Pierce

FORT PIERCE — Police continued Sunday to investigate the shooting death of a 26-year-old Fort Pierce man who was found lying in a yard at the 600 block of North 19th Street Saturday night suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

 

Police have identified the victim as John Jamaalantonio Reese, of the 100 block of South 13th Street. Reese was taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute, where he was later pronounced dead. (more…)

One died, four injured when blown tire causes SUV to overturn in western Indian River County

YEEHAW JUNCTION — A blown tire caused a Ford sport utility vehicle with a five-member Orlando family aboard lose control and overturn twice, killing a woman on Florida’s Turnpike in western Indian River County, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report released late Sunday night.

 

 

 

Daphne Ramgadoo, 62, of Orlando, was killed in the 12:35 p.m. Saturday crash. The the other passengers were taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute for treatment of non-incapacitating injuries, the report shows. (more…)

Fathers want share of settlement of two girls killed by Bromstrup in Stuart

FORT PIERCE — A judge Wednesday approved a cash settlement agreement between State Farm Insurance and the parents of two girls killed by Stephen Bromstrup in 2002, but how the money will be divided is in dispute, according to an attorney representing both mothers.

Lawyer Richard Benrubi, who represents Elizabeth Stone and Marcella Wetherbee-Quaroni on behalf of their deceased daughters, Sarah Stone and Alexandra Quaroni, told the court his clients object to sharing the money with the girls’ fathers, Tim Stone of Stuart and Renzo Quaroni, of France.

Both men were represented by lawyers during a hearing Wednesday. (more…)

— It must feel pretty strange to be rolled off an ambulance and into a crowd of cheering people.

It’s probably even more strange for Chris Doyle. After all, he’s used to rolling the stretchers, not being on one.

Doyle, 22, was released from Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute minutes before arriving at Big Apple Pizza for a fundraiser in his honor. (more…)

Dead soldier’s family says airline treatment added to grief

PALM CITY - Lance Cpl. Justin Wilson of Palm City was scheduled to come home from Afghanistan in 57 days.

Instead, his were parents were on a plane to Delaware Wednesday to meet his body. Wilson was killed Monday in Afghanistan by a roadside bomb.

Wilson, 24, always had to be first, cousin Donna Forte said.

“He was the first in the family to get married. The first to be a Marine. He had to be the best,”  Forte said.

Drug trafficking involved in Port St. Lucie woman’s killing, police say

PORT ST. LUCIE — The acts that led to Melanie Henningsen’s death stemmed from “drug trafficking,” though police don’t know what, if any, involvement she had in the illegal activity, a spokesman said Tuesday.

Emergency officials were called early Sunday morning by Henningsen’s boyfriend, Jose Ortiz, who found Henningsen with a fatal gunshot wound at their home in the 6100 block of Northwest Duke Circle, said Officer Tom Nichols, police spokesman.

Those were among the new details in the case released Tuesday by police as their investigation of the city’s first homicide of the year continues. (more…)
