Port St. Lucie paintball park in danger of being shut down

PORT ST. LUCIE — More than 600 teenagers and young adults frequent Invincibles Paintball park each month.

But the park, which opened in August and operates on 25 acres of city-owned land near Crosstown Parkway and Interstate 95, is in jeopardy of being shut down, said City Manager Don Cooper in a memo to the City Council.

The park’s owner, Vincent Cloe, built improper structures without building permits and inspections, encroached on non-leased city property, failed to file a complete site plan with the city among other issues, Cooper said.

Port St. Lucie urging federal money to finish Crosstown Parkway

PORT ST. LUCIE — The city may get a little money from the federal government for the final piece of the Crosstown Parkway.

City Manager Don Cooper sent a letter to Congressman Tom Rooney earlier this month to request the Surface Transportation Authorization Bill of 2009 include the Crosstown Parkway Extension Project, which he wrote is a critical transportation project for the city.

Cooper asked for the bill to provide $5 million of the project’s estimated cost of $100 to $125 million, but he and the city won’t know if the bill includes the project until summer, according to Rooney officials.

Part of Crosstown Parkway will open several months early

PORT ST. LUCIE — City officials expect to reach another milestone in the construction of the Crosstown Parkway in March, opening a section of the massive road project several months early.

This segment of the road will run west from Florida’s Turnpike to Interstate 95, giving drivers another option to reach the highway from St. Lucie West.

Upon its completion, the Crosstown Parkway, estimated to cost $200 million, will be the city’s third east-west corridor, stretching from I-95 across sprawling Port St. Lucie to U.S. 1. (more…)
