Fort Pierce man charged with sexual battery, kidnapping of 16-year-old girl

FORT PIERCE — A 22-year-old man accused of forcing a teen girl to perform a sex act on him before raping her at his mother’s home faces felony charges, according to an arrest affidavit released Monday.

The 16-year-old girl told police Sunday she met Timothy E. Mitz, of the 2800 block of Avenue H, about three to four weeks ago and engaged in “semi-consensual” sexual activities during that time.

She told investigators she was at Mitz’s mother’s residence on the 700 block of South 29th Street and went to sleep about 3 a.m. Sunday.

Baseball to return to Dodgertown in Vero Beach

dodgersVERO BEACH — Baseball is scheduled to return to Dodgertown, but it will be primarily amateur level events conducted under the auspices of Minor League Baseball rather than professional players, officials announced today.

The agreement to bring Minor League Baseball here ends months of speculation of what was going to happen to Dodgertown.

While the facility won’t be hosting Major League Baseball spring training in the near future, officials with Minor League Baseball believe they will still have a major economic impact in the area.

Pat O’Conner, president of Minor League Baseball, said he believes the facility could play host to events for 35 to 40 weeks in the first year of operation alone, which could start as early as spring 2010. (more…)

Two men arrested in connection with theft of over $5,000 in electronics

FORT PIERCE — Two Brevard County men were arrested in connection with an early morning crime spree that included stops at Big Apple Pizza, the City Marina and Indian River State College, police said.

Edward R. Lewis and Robert S. Friddle, both of Cocoa, stole approximately $5,000 in electronics which included three flat screen televisions, iPODS and cell phones, according to police.

Three televisions were stolen from a Big Apple restaurant in the 2300 block of S. 35th Street, according to police reports. Pepsi bottles and cash were also stolen after the eatery was broken into late Monday night, the owner told police.

Other electronics were taken from vehicles parked at the Indian River State College campus in the 3200 block of Virginia Avenue and the city marina in the 100 block of Avenue A, the reports state.
