A Sebastian woman remained in custody Tuesday in Brevard County after she roughed up and robbed someone she was partying with and threatened to arrest him, though she is not a law enforcement officer, according to an incident report.

Dawn Leigh Kravis, 31, of the 1000 block of Roseland Road, Sebastian, was charged with robbery with no weapon, kidnapping and false imprisonment of an adult and fraudulently impersonating a law enforcement officer in the commission of a felony. She was being held at the Brevard County Detention Center in lieu of $48,000 bail.

A 53-year-old man who lives in the 9100 block of U.S. 1, Micco, called the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office about 6 a.m. Saturday and said Kravis had robbed him, the report said. He told deputies he had been partying most of Friday and early Saturday with Kravis and another woman, the report said.

ST. LUCIE COUNTY — After weeks of police officer training in a classroom, Indian River State College students move on to a small platform that provides a high-tech simulation of how they react in a real-life situation.

They’re given a weapon that only emits lasers and equipped with a belt that zaps them if they put themselves in danger.

“It teaches consequences if they make bad decisions,” Stephen Huntsberger, associate dean of Public Service Education for IRSC, said of the VirTra Systems simulator at the complex.

The simulator is one of the planned demonstrations at Friday’s public open house at the new Indian River State College Public Safety Complex.

Note to teens facing a potential prison term: don’t use your MySpace page to post photos of police officers and wish “AIDS and genocide to all law enforcement.”

That’s what Stuart resident Jesse Alan Walker, 19, did while awaiting a June trial in which a jury convicted him of robbery with a firearm related to a 2008 home invasion armed robbery. At trial, he was accused of planning the robbery with two then-20-year-old co-defendants, who once played football for Jensen Beach High School.

“I hate the (expletive) police,” Walker posted on MySpace last December, along with photos of Stuart Police officers and derogatory comments.

PORT ST. LUCIE — A 20-year-old Port St. Lucie man has been arrested for allegedly pouring peroxide in the face of his pregnant girlfriend.

Port St. Lucie police reported they received a call from Joshua K. Perry’s girlfriend at 8:48 p.m. Saturday.

The woman, three months pregnant, claimed that she told Perry not to leave the Rio Mar Drive house they have shared for four months. According to police records, Perry responded by grabbing the woman by the hair and throwing her onto the couch.

FORT PIERCE — A 51-year-old associate pastor accused of backing his car up at a school into a sheriff’s deputy is facing charges, according to recently released records.

St. Lucie County sheriff’s investigators arrested Ronald J. Reeves on May 14 on felony charges including aggravated battery on an officer and resisting an officer with violence, and a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct following the events at Dale Cassens School.

Reeves reportedly arrived with an 11th-grade student and his grandmother. Reeves said he’s a mentor for the student and is an associate pastor at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church.

It’s common to see Treasure Coast teens and preteens using cell phones for sending text messages and photos.

But it’s also becoming common for teens nationwide to send other things via their phones or computer Web cameras, including explicit and sexual photographs that have given the phenomenon a new name — sexting.

“It’s been going on for several years here. We just didn’t call it this,” said Detective Brian Broughton of the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. “Now it has a little buzz word, but basically we’re referring to the same thing — when children would take nude pictures of themselves and send it to other children.”

STUART — A man accused of using a shotgun to blast his way into a Palm City home about 9 a.m. last Thursday, only to be shot three times himself, is expected to be charged with attempted murder and armed burglary.

Rhonda Irons, Martin County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman, said Monday that investigators are still probing the circumstances under which Christopher Reber, 23, of Stuart, is suspected of shooting his way into the home where Joe Russo and Linda Schultz live.

Schultz, 40, was home alone when Reber blew out the glass doors on the rear of her Lake Village home, reports said. She was slightly injured but grabbed a .40-caliber handgun and fired back at him, hitting him three times.

PORT ST. LUCIE — Residents in the city will see their cable, Internet, home phone and cell phones bills increase in six months by a few dollars.

The Port St. Lucie City Council approved more than tripling the city’s communications services tax at its Monday night meeting with only Councilman Chris Cooper dissenting. Nobody from the public spoke on the issue.

The increase from 1.5 percent to 5.22 percent will provide the city with $4.6 million each year as part of the solution for the city to make up for an anticipated $10 million shortfall in next year’s budget, according to the city’s Communications Director Ed Cunningham.

The City Council gave preliminary approval earlier this week to increase the city’s comunications services tax from 1.5 percent to 5.22 percent, which would provide the city with $4.6 million each year. It’s one possible solution for the city as a way to make up for an anticipated $10 million shortfall in next year’s budget.

PORT ST. LUCIE — Residents near Faith Congregational Church won’t be seeing a cell phone tower by their homes in the future.

The Port St. Lucie City Council unanimously agreed Monday night to deny granting special exception to city zoning codes for a cell phone tower to be built at the church on the southeast corner of Savona and California boulevards. (more…)
