Four injured in fiery, four-car crash in Hobe Sound

HOBE SOUND — Four people were injured in a fiery four-car crash at the intersection of U.S. 1 and Heritage Boulevard about 7 p.m. Monday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

One person had to be extricated from a vehicle, and one was flown to the trauma center at St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach.

According to the report, the crash happened when a 2001 Pontiac sedan operated by Chester A. Ash, 20, of Port St. Lucie, turned left from the southbound lane toward Heritage Boulevard without yielding to oncoming traffic.

Stuart detectives seek family of homeless pedestrian killed in car crash

STUART — Investigators said they are trying to learn more about a homeless man killed in a car crash last month.

Thomas Patrick Collins, 67, was killed while on foot in the Dec. 18 traffic accident in the 700 block of South Federal Highway, police said.

Detectives have been unable to locate any of Collins’ relatives. Anyone with information about Collins should contact Detective Derek Ortado at (772) 220-3906.

Teen pried from wrecked car in Fort Pierce, taken to trauma center

FORT PIERCE — A man in his late teens was taken to a local provisional trauma center Sunday after his car crashed into a palm tree, a St. Lucie County Fire District spokeswoman said Monday.

Crews responded about 9:45 a.m. Sunday to the incident in the 4100 block of Sunrise Boulevard, Fire District spokeswoman Catherine Chaney said.

Port St. Lucie crash injures two

PORT ST. LUCIE — Two people were injured after a Sunday afternoon car crash.

At about 1 p.m. St. Lucie County Fire District crews were called to the intersection of Peacock Boulevard and St. Lucie West Boulevard, where two cars had collided, according to district spokeswoman Catherine Chaney.

One man in his early 50s was flown to a local trauma center in critical condition, Chaney said. A woman in her late 20s was taken to a local hospital.

Man killed, woman injured in I-95 crash near Palm City

A man died and a woman was badly hurt in a single-car crash on Interstate 95 near Palm City on Saturday morning, authorities said.
Nicholas F. LaMaina, 77, was killed while riding in a 2007 Cadillac Seville driven by Carolyn LaMaina, 65, according to a Florida Highway Patrol bulletin circulated this morning.
About 10:30 a.m. Saturday, the LaMainas, who lived in Boynton Beach, were driving north on Interstate 95 near mile marker 106 when Carolyn LaMaina apparently lost control of the Cadillac, the bulletin said.
The car veered off the roadway and hit a stand of trees before rolling over.

Nicholas LaMaina, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, died during the crash.

Carolyn LaMaina, who was wearing a seatbelt, was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center in serious condition, the bulletin said.
