Indian River authorities investigating discovery of body in back yard of home

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday evening was investigating the discovery of a dead body in the Winter Beach area.

About 5:30 p.m., a lawn service crew found the body in the back yard of a home in the 4800 block of 61st Court, authorities said.

The body, which had not been identified as of Wednesday evening, was well into the decomposition stage, said Lt. Darrin Jones.

Crime scene investigators were processing the scene. Sheriff’s office officials said they aren’t aware of any active missing-person cases being investigated.

No further information was available Wednesday evening.
