JENSEN BEACH — An 18-year-old woman accused Saturday of leaving an infant alone in a vehicle for at least 20 minutes at the Treasure Coast Square mall was arrested, according to an affidavit and a report released Monday.

Christie Schauble, of Okeechobee, was arrested on charges including domestic violence child abuse (on a child 8 months old) and leaving child unattended in motor vehicle over 15 minutes (child 8 months old) in connection with the incidents.

A woman told a Martin County Sheriff’s Office deputy she found an infant alone in a running vehicle without an adult around. The deputy’s investigation revealed Schauble left the child alone in a 1996 Chevrolet for at least 20 minutes.

Schauble said she had to use the restroom and see her roommate in the mall.

She said she “left the window down” and was “only gone for 25 to 30 minutes.” She showed no affection toward the infant nor did she ask about his well being.

Schauble, arrested at 7:32 p.m., “just wanted me to turn over the car keys to her roommate,” an affidavit states.

The infant was treated and taken to Martin Memorial Medical Center in Stuart. The infant was turned over to a state Department of Children and Families case worker.

I hope that parents don’t do the same over and over again. This kind of news have been coming up lately and we should find ways to lessen issues like this. As a parent of two kids, and I leave them with a nanny but sometimes, I worry that some things might go wrong. I’ve been trying to find a solution incase emergency happens and luckily I read an article which featured a safety app which gets me connected to a safety network or escalate my call to the nearest 911 when needed, it has other cool features that are helpful for your kids.
