VERO BEACH — Steven Thomas Wilton Jr., 18, of the 400 block of 16th Street Southwest, Vero Beach, was released on his own recognizance after an Indian River County Sheriff’s deputy — using his own blue lights — stopped Wilton and took him into custody shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday.

A couple said they had pulled aside at the intersection of County Road 510 and U.S. 1 Saturday night for Wilton, who had the lights and sirens on his white Jeep, the affidavit said. After the couple stopped, the Jeep drove past them with Wilton and two teenagers inside laughing, the couple told deputies.

After the incident was reported, a deputy saw the Jeep with blue lights flashing and stopped it in the 6500 block of U.S. 1. Wilton said the blue lights were automatically activated with the stereo system and the Jeep’s alarm system sounds like a police siren, according to the affidavit.
