ST. LUCIE COUNTY – At 21, Jaclyn Kinkade had it all, good looks, an outgoing personality, and a promising career at a doctor’s office, “She didn’t wake up one morning and say, ‘hey I think I’m going to be a drug addict today,’ she was sent to the pain clinic by someone she trusted, her doctor,” said Ann Kinkade, Jaclyn’s mother. But last year, after countless pain pill prescriptions, the stunning blond looked ragged, her cheeks hollow, she would go out all night and sleep all day. Before her parents could take action, she was dead. “If we knew then what we know now, we probably could have done more,” said Ann.

In 2010, 91 people died in the Treasure Coast as a result of prescription drug abuse. So far this year 9 more have died. Armed with knowledge, Jaclyn’s parents Bruce and Ann Kinkade are teaming up with the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office to stop the epidemic. “This week, throughout St. Lucie County, drivers will notice billboards putting a face to prescription drug abuse,” said St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken Mascara. Their hope is to get those who are suffering to reach out for help. “The odds are if they don’t reach out for help, they are going to die,” said Sheriff Mascara. “Educate yourselves as much as you possibly can, because the alternative is what Ann and my family live with for the rest of our lives, the pain, the loneliness, and the heartbreak,” said Bruce Kinkade, Jaclyn’s Father. The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s office has set up a prescription drug abuse tip line; it is anonymous and available 24 hours a day. The transformation in just two years is phenomenal. Why on earth would authority PERMIT the sleaze of society to profit immensely at the expense of so many like young beautiful Jaclyn, and ultimately their loving families? How in the world can this be in this day and age?? Each human, just like Jaclyn, who unwittingly gets addicted to a LIFE THREATENING drug at the hands of a so-called MD, seemingly isn’t even considered when the sleaze of society are ALLOWED to OPEN SHOP and dispense hundreds of meds to single individual. I’m in total disbelief. I totally discount people who degrade the abuser of the drug by saying they ‘made a choice.’ That mentality is PURE DRIVEL. NO doctor should be prescribing death drugs in quantities like THEY DO.
Please visit stoppnow.com….click on MEDIA CENTER….then scroll down to the video ‘OXYCONTIN EXPRESS.’ People, we ALL need to get involved and put an end to the destruction!
To all out there affected by this epidemic/pandemic, know that you are not alone and there are A LOT of people who care. To the families, never give up on your loved one…as hard as I know it is. To the addicted, you are cared for more than you realize. I am a complete stranger to you, and you to me, BUT I CARE! I think you know how detrimental the lifestyle is. Please know, there are so many people who understand and want to help. But you need to ask for help…when you are ready. You will get it. Keep trying and do not give up on yourself. Every day is another opportunity. Keep trying! The universe loves you!
I wish peace to all…especially Jaclyn and her family.

There ARE people who DO have pain, REAL PAIN.
In fact, some people cannot function without pain medications.
If I or someone else cannot function without pain medications because of a broken back and hip and chronic rheumatoid arthritis, what should I do? Take 5,000mg of Tylenol and/or Ibuprofen a day? Because that is what I was doing to be able to get through my day. My pain meds do not take away the pain, they just numb the pain. I have a very strict physician and do not use Oxycodone or Oxycontin, but it is an opiate that does help the pain.
There are people out there who abuse drugs and will always abuse drugs. In another article, Governor Scott mentioned that he does not believe in a drug database not only because it is invasion of privacy for innocent people who do no wrong and legally have prescriptions, but because studies show that even with a database and strict prescribing laws the percentage of deaths did not decrease – in other words, everyone caring and do whatever they could to prevent deaths did not mean that deaths WERE prevented.
There are always going to be people who overdo things either purposefully or not. I was poisoning myself with thousands of milligrams of an over-the-counter medication until I got help from a pain doctor and my medications now are much less toxic than what I previously had taken.
It is sad when anyone dies, but pain meds are not the problem…the people who take them are.

Geez……those of you who “have pain, REAL PAIN” and “cannot function without pain medications because of a broken back and hip and chronic rheumatoid arthritis” should be able to get your synthetic opiates from a reputable medical facility NO PROBLEM if that is what (you think) you NEED. You think?
Wonder how many legitimate people “have pain, REAL PAIN” and “cannot function without pain medications because of a broken back and hip and chronic rheumatoid arthritis” compared to the GROWING number of addicted with fake MRI’s.
Certainly this is no argument to keep the PILL MILLS from multiplying at record speed. Besides, how does one end up with a “broken back and hip and chronic rheumatoid arthritis”…were you hit by a red-light runner under the influence of pain meds recklessly prescribed by a PAIN MILL doctor? Or maybe you are 500lbs and fell off a curb?
Sorry, but I have little compassion for any person with no foresight for repercussions to be had by ALL and who lacks compassion for any person in dire straights.

You take away the legitiment pain meds for the folks that need them, the addicts will just go back to the illegal drugs… I am on both sides of this issue. I have sons that have addictions… Two years my one of my sons was on 10 to 15 pills a day… We had many talks and like he told me, I will stop when I want to… He has been clean now for 6 – 8 months… He does not want to go back there… My other son had a crack habit, very bad… Did a year in prison, clean 2 years and ended back on the crack… Clean now for 1 year… It is all about choices and they had to be the one to make it for themselves… My son (who went to prison)also had a zanex addiction… He died and was brought back with a needle stuck in his heart to get it beating again… I don’t have an answer to anyone elses problems, but my kids have told me, at least they could talk to me and I was there for them… And not as an enabler, but as a mother and friend…

It is sure a joke that they can remove Tylenol off the shelves, but pharmaceuticals can still make and sell oxycodone ( oxycotin). Who’s making money off of this? In Florida ask Scott, maybe all these companies funded his campaign. And these people that have legit pain, what would you have done 50 years ago without oxycodone? I also have a son that is addicted to this drug. He was a good looking, athletic, intelligent young man at 15. Then he started hanging with a doctors son, who took prescription pads from his father and 1 pill lead to many. My son is now very thin and fraile and will be spending his 21st b-day in jail. I guess I should be thankful he is alive and at least I know where he is at. As a mother, I don’t know if I will every get my true son back that I put 15 long years into, I can just hope and pray. THIS DRUG NEEDS TO BE TAKEN OFF THE MARKET, NOW!

I agree with AJLind There ARE people in real pain, I am one of them-since 1995. And like you, I do take around 5,000 mg of Tylenol, Motrin, Aleve, Advil, whatever I choose to buy for the month, yet they really don’t help much. Nor did Vicodin, Lortab, Percocet, Percodan so I quit taking them on my own. The pain has worsened over the ears so I’d prob be willing to take one of those oxy whatever pills just to get a pain-free day, if they in fact work. Not in a hurry to get to the grave, but I’m so old I know it won’t be long anyway. And if ur only prescribed 1 or 2 a day and more every month, I can’t see how you can getthat bad unless you ake more than prescribed, but you’d run out before the and of the month, then where are you? Unless you go to more than 1 dr. or use false names, but it’s regulated by state here in CA so it’s pretty hard to that. So you’d have to buy off the street. Here’s hoping the rest of you don’t end up in the REAL PAIN during your lives-it IS real!

I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

This is a very delicate subject if one has never experienced the agony of pain. I have never experienced this type of pain but I have known countless number of people abusing it. I have tried to no avail to talk them out of it but always fail. It’s like a hopeless fight just as someone on drugs. Your best option is to pray and hope they get into a rehab program and it works for them,
People will continue to die from pain pills, we can only hope to lower that number.

I’m impressed, I have to say. Really hardly ever do I encounter a blog that’s each educative and entertaining, and let me let you know, you’ve gotten hit the nail on the head. Your idea is outstanding; the issue is something that not enough persons are talking intelligently about. I’m very happy that I stumbled throughout this in my search for one thing regarding this.
