INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Sheriff’s deputies were looking Sunday for a 45-year-old Vero Beach man wanted on a charge of attempted murder in the Saturday night stabbing of a woman that took place in the parking lot of the Oslo Plaza shopping center.

Deputies are asking that anyone with information on the whereabouts of Miguel Gonzalez-Campos contact them immediately at 772-978-6240. They also warn not to approach the suspect, who was last seen fleeing the scene of the stabbing, driving west on Oslo Road in a blue/green 1997 Ford E-350 Econoline Club Wagon Super 18 passenger van with a water rack on the back, bearing Florida license tag 1991IJ.

The name of the female stabbing victim was not released Sunday. However, sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Jeff Luther said she was in critical condition at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce.

The woman and suspect met at Oslo Plaza, near the corner of 27th Avenue and Oslo Road, sometime after 7 p.m. Saturday to talk, according to Sheriff’s Sgt. A Iovino, who was at the crime scene. It was thought they were a couple, although their marital status was not confirmed by Sunday.

The woman arrived in a van with two young children. They were unharmed and placed in the custody of grandparents, Iovino said.

Gonzalez-Campos lives at 229 26th Ave. S.W., in Ixora Park, where an orange semi-tractor was parked on the front lawn Sunday morning. A car and trailer was parked in the driveway of the home, where a child’s bicycle was near the front door.

According to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office website, Gonzalez-Campos has been arrested six times since January 2007 on charges that included felony child abuse, battery domestic violence, petty theft, shoplifting, misdemeanor affray and battery. Court records were not available Sunday to determine the outcome of those charges.

Deputies said Gonzalez-Campos is believed to have associates in the Okeechobee, Miami and St. Lucie County areas.
