Sally notes that: “In Martin County, where politeness usually prevails and none of the politicians are in prison yet, candidate forums are more entertaining than anything on summer TV. A Hobe Sound Chamber of Commerce spokesman set the tone at a chamber-sponsored forum in a neighborhood church bingo hall, hoping for a meeting that’s ‘happy, snappy; not crappy.’
“The forum bans political signs. So several women wear T-shirts supporting Amendment 4, the Hometown Democracy proposition that would let residents vote on changes to county growth plans. The chamber and most business groups oppose the Amendment.”
