WHITE CITY — Two siblings were bitten over the weekend by a 35- to 40-pound raccoon at White City Park on West Midway Road, according to a recently released St. Lucie County sheriff’s report.

The victims, a 53-year-old woman and her 54-year-old sister, told investigators Sunday they were walking on the northeast side of the park by the river when they saw the raccoon approaching.

They tried to walk away, but the raccoon kept approaching. The younger woman said the raccoon began to attack her, and her sister tried to fight it off.

The Fort Pierce residents wound up with bites in several places.

It wasn’t immediately known whether the raccoon was rabid.

No further information was released.
