Witnesses said a Port St. Lucie woman was speeding before a crash that killed her and injured two others when she crashed into an ambulance at a Fort Pierce intersection late Tuesday afternoon. TCPalm.com
The crash happened shortly after 6 p.m. at Virginia Avenue and 25th Street, according to Fort Pierce police spokeswoman Audria Moore.
An ambulance, driven by St. Lucie County Firefighter William Hines, was at the intersection of Virginia Avenue and 25th Street to make a left turn onto 25th Street, when a Nissan SUV, driven by Germaine Lindor, 63, of the 2600 block of NW Batches Harbor Road, Port St. Lucie, entered the intersection and collided with the passenger side of the ambulance, according to Moore.
The impact tipped the ambulance over on its driver side and caused it to spin around and skid on its side for about 50 feet. The SUV continued traveling north on 25th Street until it came to a stop.
Witness William Kelly said Lindor’s SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed before the crash.
“This is a 45 (mph zone) and it was doing twice that, no problem at all. Ninety, easy,’’ Kelly said. “I saw her 50 feet away from the intersection. I couldn’t believe that she wasn’t slowing down. … Hit that hump, it seemed like her truck left the ground and jumped up in the air and hit the ambulance.’’
Lindor was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hines and his passenger, Christopher Doyle, were transported to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center and Heart Institute. Hines was treated and released. Doyle, transported in critical condition, improved slightly overnight, officials said.
Fort Pierce police were still investigating the crash
Lt. Jim Tedder said Tuesday night that the exact speed of the SUV had not yet been determined.
“How fast was she going when she hit that ambulance? I’m not able to give you a speed on the vehicle right now,” Tedder said. “Obviously from the debris field and the impact, it appears to be substantial but our traffic homicide investigator will make that determination.”
All County Ambulance is a Florida-based private medical transport company.

Sounds like she was behind the wheel of a Toyota.

Was the ambulance responding to a call and taking a left turn on a red light, inadvertently cutting this lady off?
Did the lady have a green light?
The Post needs to report on the “other side” of the story as well. A person died here.

Other side….it makes absolutely NO difference what the ambulance was doing! The woman was driving a rocket! Can’t you read???? If she hadn’t been driving so damn fast she could have stopped! A witness saw her vehicle in the air….HELLO!

I feel bad for her family and that of the ambulance EMT in critical condition.
This does prove that it isn’t just young people (teens/young adults) that are out there speeding.
I wonder since she was traveling at such a significantly high rate of speed where she was going? A family emergency maybe? Also, did the ambulance have lights and sirens on? I really wish the Post did a better job of finding the facts before they rush to print.

There is no justification to be doing 90 mph. We cannot call this an accident, this is a negligent act. We are becoming a stupid society. I see everyday morons on the highway, tailgating cutting on front and speeding. If they crash or cause a crash, it cannot be called an accident. I hate all those pickup truck drivers, they seem to be brainless.
Most of them. I assume a few own a pick up truck and drive like normal people.

I don’t know 90 mph in a SUV? I think the witness is exagerating quite a bit.

And people wonder why the State of Florida is going to desperate measures to install cameras?

We need the sheriff’s off I-95 and in the neighborhoods generating revenue.

Amazing how many fools want to “pin the excuse” on the donkey here. Maybe, just maybe she was driving too friggin fast and ran into the ambulance as was reported. Quit looking into your belly buttons for reasons for everything. Sometimes people screw up and cause accidents. She won’t be doing that again, that’s for sure.

If the driver was going 90 mph through an intersection and “caught air” who is to say the driver wasn’t already dead before the crash occured.. perhaps from a heart attack or other medical reason. Then it would make sense the high rate of speed and the failure to slow or stop.

So quick to post judgement. She was an older lady. Maybe she suffered a stroke or something similiar. I do not know any older women doing 80mph, i live in Palm beach county and they all drive 20 mph below the speed limit. I do agree that the post does need to fill in the blanks.

Obvoiusly she wsn’t going to the store for milk!
There’s much left blank here.
Bottom line: I dead, two injured,…move on.

People think so negatively when it comes to situations as such. Have you ever sat back and thought maybe she had a medical problem. I don’t know not one 63 year old doing “90″ on a highway nevemind a street. At the end of the day the ambulance company are trained professionals and I hope they had their sirens on. Before they proceed they are required to make sure the coast is clear. So before u pass judgement, know the facts first. Moron!!!

There’s no reason to have sirens on when they were just returning to the hospital without a patient for their next case. They had a green arrow to turn left. I know the family.
