Port St. Lucie mom charged with felony assault on deputy at St. Lucie West K-8 School

December 10th, 2009 by TCPalm.com

PORT ST. LUCIE — A woman faces charges after she drove through a sheriff’s barrier at St. Lucie West K-8 School Tuesday and nearly ran over a deputy’s feet before closing her van’s door on his foot, according to an arrest affidavit released Wednesday.

Christina A. Lydon

Christina A. Lydon, 47, also refused to stop when Deputy Paul McNesky tried to flag her down and wouldn’t lower her window, the affidavit stated. Lydon, of the 6100 block of Northwest East Deville Circle in Port St. Lucie, was arrested on single felony and misdemeanor charges following the 9:20 a.m. Tuesday encounter.

About an hour earlier, McNesky put his marked patrol vehicle across the entrance to the drop-off area. The vehicle’s emergency lights were activated and orange cones were positioned to stop more traffic from getting in the area.

About 9:18 a.m., a blue Toyota van driven by Lydon went “through the barrier past my marked patrol car and into the drop-off lot,” the deputy wrote. Lydon “completely ignored” McNesky, who was about 10 feet away and the only person in the area when he tried to flag her down.

Lydon dropped off her child and headed toward the exit. McNesky walked to the exit area, where he stood about one foot from Lydon’s van and directed her to stop, the affidavit stated.

Instead, she said “something” and continued, the deputy said.

“I was ordering her to stop and was so close to her vehicle, my hand was on the side of it,” the affidavit states. “I then realized that she was not going to stop and I had to jump back in fear of getting my legs hit or my feet being run over.”

McNesky said he then ran to his patrol car and stopped Lydon, who refused to roll her window down. Told the deputy needed her license and registration, Lydon pressed them against the inside of the window, the affidavit stated. She finally opened the passenger side window and threw them on the ground, the deputy wrote.

McNesky stood at the rear of Lydon’s van talking with another deputy and a school security officer when Lydon opened the passenger door and grabbed the license and registration off the ground, the affidavit said.

He wrote that he raced up to keep Lydon from closing the door. She saw him and “frantically” tried to shut herself back in the van, the deputy stated. McNesky stuck his left foot in the door, thwarting her effort.

Lydon was arrested on a charge of felony assault on an officer, firefighter, EMT, etc., with a deadly weapon and a misdemeanor charge of resisting an officer without violence.

Her van was towed and she was taken to jail.

    What was she thinking?

What a crazy and dumb person!

  4. Vagrant Says:

I’m not excusing her actions, but there may have been a reason(not necessarily a good one)this woman reacted this way. Or.. maybe she’s just insane in the membrane.

WoW.. more nut’s are out than in…there has to be more to this story, like a missing link! Or maybe she is actually losing her mind, hopefully the Judge will have her seek Mental Health Care. Only if they allow her out. Wonder how she treat’s her child?? Scary

Christina Lydon lost it. I’m amazed that more people don’t lose it. You get to a point where you can’t even drop your kids off at school and make it to work on time. A more level headed person may have let her child out of the van and sent them on their way. The child could have walked the remaining distance. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. But in this crazy world, who knows? Apologize, plead temporary stupidity and take your suspended sentence and a $500.00 fine. Oh yeah, don’t forget to write a note of apology to the arresting officer.
