Stuart one of the nation’s best places to retire, neighborhood site says

November 9th, 2009 by TCPalm.com

STUART — An online neighborhood Web site is including the city of Stuart in its top 20 list of best places to retire.

NeighborhoodScout.com ranked the city No. 18 in the nation on a list of 20 cities where people can retire for less than $150,000.

The rankings were posted on the popular Web search engine AOL.com.

Corpus Christi, Texas is No. 1 on the list.

The cities were judged based on crime, peacefulness, scenery, housing options and diversity of age groups — all for $150,000 or less.

“Retirement is changing for the better, as active seniors and 50-plus baby boomers look to get more out of this next stage in their lives,” said Andrew Schiller, founder of the site. “Finding a great place to retire that combines the excitement of a dream retirement locale with an affordable price, is the ideal solution today for many retirees and prospective retirees.”

For Stuart, the site listed the median home value as $128,398 and the city in the middle of the pack for crime. Stuart’s educational rating ranked 7 out of 10.

This year, the state Board of Education recognized the Martin County School District as one of its “academically high- performing school districts.”

Stuart ranked a spot higher than Venice in Sarasota County. However, Florida cities Naples and New Port Richey ranked higher at spots 15 and 16 respectively.

A late October housing report by Metrostudy, a national housing data and consulting firm, show the housing market is rebounding for the area. The inventory of finished homes are down to about one-fourth of peak housing levels.

  3. Americas Best Places To Retire Says:

With its’ mild climate, sandy beaches and a golf season that lasts nearly 365 days a year, retirees are not going to be able to stay away. Many baby boomers are on the verge of retiring and housing prices have never been better for buyers. Florida is and always will be one of the best places to retire!
