Juvenile violent crime drops in Fort Pierce
November 4th, 2009 by TCPalm.comFORT PIERCE — The juvenile violent crime rate dropped by nearly 30 percent so far this year, Fort Pierce police said Tuesday.
Police attributed the decrease to some initiatives run by officers. The numbers also included a 17 percent drop in overall youth crime.
“The decrease in juvenile crime is an encouraging sign that what we are doing is working,” Chief R. Sean Baldwin said.
Officers launched one program, called Juvenile Arrest and Monitoring, a year ago to monitor teens on probation who are prone to commit more crimes. Officers check daily on those teens at home and school, said Officer Danie Dreizehnter, who is in charge of the program. Assistant State Attorney Carlos Wells, who handles juvenile cases, said he’s noticed kids in the program are offending less.
