Gov. Crist to visit Fellsmere alternative-fuel algae farm today

November 3rd, 2009 by TCPalm.com

FELLSMERE — Gov. Charlie Crist is scheduled Tuesday to see for himself the progress in alternative fuels at a local algae farm.

Crist is expected to arrive between 2 and 3 p.m. at PetroAlgae, in the 14600 block of 101st Street, governor’s aides said.

Crist’s visit follows in the wake of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce recently honoring the Melbourne-based company with a Faces of Trade Award with the promise of international commerce and American jobs in a new industry.

PetroAlgae is licensing a micro-crop technology worldwide that its believes will someday replace fossil fuels. At the small-scale outdoor production site in Fellsmere, about 150 different micro-organisms are grown and harvested several times a day.
