More details emerge on arrest of Willie Gary’s son
October 30th, 2009 by TCPalm.comHOBE SOUND — Kobie O. Gary, son of famed local lawyer Willie Gary, and Hobe Sound resident Steven A. Shepherd did not make any statements to investigators before being released on $10,000 bail each late Tuesday.
Kobie Gary, 30, and Shepherd, 33, were arrested Tuesday after investigators found more than 250 marijuana plants growing at the home where Shepherd lives in the 7200 block of Southeast Mulberry Drive. The relationship between the men wasn’t known.
Investigators stopped Kobie Gary as he walked out of the grow house’s front door and got in a Chevrolet Tahoe, according to the arrest affidavit.
In Gary’s vehicle, investigators found a Western Union receipt reflecting payment on Oct. 15 from Kobie Gary to Florida Power & Light Co. for the house’s electricity bill, according to the affidavit. A small amount of marijuana also was in his vehicle.
In addition to the marijuana and growing apparatus, investigators found a package in the house addressed to Gary at his Jensen Beach home. The package looked to contain a “biochemical used to kill insects on plants,” according to the affidavit.
Investigators believe Kobie Gary and Shepherd, listed as unemployed, were equally involved in the operation. Each faces felony charges of possession of more than 20 grams of cannabis and cultivation of cannabis.
The investigation that led to the arrests began in April when an informant gave information to Martin sheriff’s detectives about drug activity in St. Lucie County, sheriff’s spokeswoman Rhonda Irons said. Martin detectives worked with U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration officials to investigate the information, but no arrests were made, Irons said.
Things picked up following reports of “odd smells and behavior” coming from the grow house, situated about 15 miles from Kobie Gary’s home in the 3600 block of Northwest Deer Oak Drive in a gated community off Jensen Beach Boulevard.
Kobie Gary could not be reached Wednesday. Willie Gary did not immediately respond to a media inquiry about his son’s arrest.
Investigators have no information indicating Willie Gary knew about the grow house, Irons said.

It so sad that some people don’t wont to work. They are lazy and rather sell drugs to make a living. Gary want have to work in prison. He can live free and not help destroy young children lives with drugs.
