Sebastian middle schoolers charged with felony drug distribution after other students hospitalized

October 20th, 2009 by TCPalm.com

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Authorities announced Monday they made three arrests after three Storm Grove Middle School students were hospitalized when they became ill from snorting crushed Roxycodone pain pills and using other drugs.

The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office said one of the sick students, a 13-year-old girl, named students at the school who were providing prescription drugs and marijuana to her and others, Sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Jeff Luther said.

The Sheriff’s Office charged Halee Marie Webb, 14, of the 100 block of Harris Drive, Sebastian, and Jacob Scott Martin, 13, of the 100 block of Midvale Terrace, Sebastian, each with felony distribution of a controlled substance. Another 13-year-old girl had a juvenile affidavit filed against her for misdemeanor possession of marijuana, Luther said.

“It’s an ongoing problem that our school resource officers are dealing with,” Luther said.

Webb, who was also one of the three students hospitalized, told an administrator that she stole a Xanax pill from her grandfather Thursday morning, according to her arrest affidavit. She split the pill in half and shared it in a school restroom with a student who was later hospitalized, the affidavit said.

One of the hospitalized students said Martin provided her with two Adderol pills, the Sheriff’s Office said. Adderol is used to treat hyperactivity and narcolepsy.

Indian River County Schools spokeswoman Patti Vasquez said the suspension/expulsion review team will look the students’ actions.

Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers, while customarily not naming juveniles accused of crimes, does name some juveniles depending on the seriousness of the crime, their age, aggravating circumstances and other factors.

This is so repulsive to read that this drug has gotten to middle schoolers. Everyday you read that these drugs are affecting so many people in a terrible way. Nothing good comes out of taking any of these pills. They need to shut down all the pain management clinics!!

    sad kids.

  3. G Says:

Once again, blame it on bad parenting…..!

  4. Mr. Bojangles Says:

The parents, the kids that sold/brought it, and the kids that tried it should serve some time.

Instead, all parties will somehow be made victims and compensated for this act.

  5. Bo Says:

Let me guess. The kids got the drugs out of their parents medicine cabinets. Figures. I swear there are more “legal” prescription addicts here than anywhere else. Yes, investigate the parents.

i actullay knew this girl she used to go to my charter school this was her frist year out of charter! i never imagined that she would do any thing like this and it struck me hard because i spent two years in the same class as her oh and u people cant say it was bad parenting because her dads in jail and she was takin away from her mom thats why she lives w/ her grand parents she was acutally a sweet girl!!!

  7. Friend Says:

This story is so much deeper than it appears. This beautiful girl has been dealt a terrible hand. Yes, both of her parents are in jail and she has been living with her grandparents. She also just lost a 4 year old brother to cancer last year. Unfortunately her brother’s illness completely destroyed this family and has left her with no strong parental figures. While it is easy to pass quick judgement, what these young kids really need are our prayers.
