Treasure Coast cool, windy for a few more days
October 18th, 2009 by TCPalm.comTreasure Coast temperatures will continue to be cool today, but not quite as chilly as this morning. Forecasters said the temps will start returning to about normal for this time of year by the early part of the week.
Before dawn this morning, the low in Vero Beach was 47 degrees — just two degrees above the record of 45 degrees, set in 1977, according to National Weather Service forecaster Bob Wimmer in Melbourne. The weather service does not keep official records for other parts of the Treasure Coast.
Today was mostly sunny, windy, and cool with highs in the upper 60s. Winds were out of the north/northwest at around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
That still puts us a tad over a dozen degrees cooler than average for the date, and the wind will actually make it feel a little cooler than the actual temperature. A Small Craft Advisory is in effect for boaters, and winds and seas are expected to remain hazardous for boaters into Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
Tonight will be mostly clear, windy, and cold with lows in the mid 50s, though not close to the record for the date, which was 49 degrees, set in 1977.
There will be a slight wind chill on tonight and a few inland locations may drop into the upper 40s. There is a very slight chance for an isolated shower or two.
Monday will be partly to mostly sunny. High temperatures will be in the mid 70s, and winds will be gusty out of the northeast. A low of 67 is forecast Monday night.
On Tuesday, and east-northeast wind will bring us the moderating effect of the ocean, and the high is expected to rise to about 81 degrees, with a low of 67 degrees.
That puts our weather very near normal for this time of year, which is about 84 degrees for a high and 68 degrees for a low, Wimmer said.
