Port St. Lucie Toddler critical after TV falls on him

October 14th, 2009 by TCPalm.com

A Port St. Lucie toddler has been airlifted in critical condition to St. Mary’s Medical Center after a television fell on him, said St. Lucie County Fire Rescue spokeswoman Catherine Chaney.

About 11:55 a.m. Wednesday at the Bella Vista Apartments at the Savanna Club, a 3-year-old boy tried to change the TV channel on a television when it fell on him, according to a release from the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s office.

The boy climbed up to change the channel because the TV’s controls were on top of the TV set, the release states. The TV hit the boy in the face, Chaney said. She said the TV weighs between 40 and 50 pounds.

St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office deputies are investigating.
