A Martin County inmate was arrested today in connection with a homicide at the Martin Correctional Institution. Ricky Silva was arrested for the death of his cellmate, Terry Bell, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said.

According to an arrest affidavit, Silva told a Correctional Officer conducting hourly cell checks that he had killed his cellmate. Bell’s body was discovered by Department of Corrections personnel at approximately 2:40 a.m. A witness told a detective that Silva, 29, had observed Bell, 45, fondling himself while viewing a photograph of a juvenile family member of Silva’s.

The Office of the Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of the death and the case remains under investigation.
