Some door-to-door transit riders may have to go on a waiting list in Martin, officials say
September 23rd, 2009 by TCPalm.comMARTIN COUNTY — Some door-to-door bus riders in Martin County who are not already booked may have to be placed on a waiting list, according to a news release from the Council on Aging of Martin County.
“All rides already booked on Community Coach will continue as scheduled,” according to the news release issued by Bonnie Ares Royster, director of development for the council.
But, she notes, with the demand high and funding limited, some services may not be immediately available. Also, a change in how some services are handled may be causing some confusion.
“Many transit riders may be confused about a recent change in transportation services in Martin County,” the release notes. “In January 2009, Medical Transportation Management Inc., (MTM) was awarded the designation of Community Transportation Coordinator in Martin County. As such, MTM determines which clients receive door-to-door transportation services and who delivers those services.
“Community Coach receives referrals from MTM, however our ability to provide services is limited by available funding.”
Royster’s release states that “Community Coach is helping MTM to address the significant demand for transportation services during these difficult times.”
It notes that “as we approach the end of the County’s fiscal year, Community Coach will do its utmost to accommodate riders referred to us by MTM. However, riders may have to be placed on a wait list. We ask the public to please be patient as we endeavor to accommodate requests to the best of our ability.”
