Port St. Lucie man accused of “aiming” vehicle at people in Taco Bell parking lot

September 22nd, 2009 by TCPalm.com

PORT ST. LUCIE — A 26-year-old man accused of hitting a woman with the driver’s side mirror of his pick-up truck in a Taco Bell parking lot faces charges, according to a recently released arrest affidavit.

Keith Ransford, of the 2300 block of Southeast Seafury Lane, was arrested on charges including aggravated battery, criminal mischief and resisting arrest without violence following the late Friday night incidents.

The affidavit gave this account:

The victim said she was talking with friends in the parking lot of the Taco Bell in the 9000 block of South U.S. 1 when a white Dodge Ram pick-up truck drove toward her. The person behind the wheel reportedly had been driving around the parking lot “yelling at most of the people hanging out in the area.”

She said the driver “aimed” the vehicle at her and hit her shoulder with the driver’s side mirror. Another person gave a similar account.

Police stopped the vehicle in the 1400 block of Southeast Veterans Memorial Parkway, and Ransford, 26, said he had been in the parking lot. He recalled “the car club people” hanging around and said they called him a racial epithet after he asked them to move.

He denied hitting anyone.

Ransford was arrested early Saturday morning and taken to jail. Police said he damaged the officer’s vehicle on the way.
