Vandals strike Palm Cove Golf Club course, reward offered
August 21st, 2009 by TCPalm.comPALM CITY — The Palm Cove Golf Club is offering a reward for information that leads to an arrest for vandalism to its golf course.
The club has been vandalized before but never like this, said Jay Pacholczak, Palm Cove Golf Club greens superintendent, who added a $2,500 reward is being offered.
On Tuesday morning, Pacholczak found three of the 18 putting greens with multiple holes that appeared to have been damaged with a post hole digger.
Pacholczak said he’s upset over the vandalism.
“Putting greens are extremely expensive. It costs 10 to 15 thousand dollars per green,” he said.
If the vandals would have done anymore damage to the greens, they would have had to be rebuilt with new grass, Pacholczak said. Instead, it took 12 to 15 workers to fill in all the holes on the three greens Tuesday.
“This is hard to fix. If it was later in the year, it would have been devastating because grass doesn’t grow as fast as it does over the summer,” he said.
The vandalism that occurs at the club is usually sign damage or golf cart thefts, and it mostly happens over the summer because school is out, Pacholczak said.
Now Palm Cove, which had its golf course redone in 2004, is adding security to ensure something like this doesn’t happen again, Pacholczak said.
“We are trying to catch who did this,” he said. “We just want to stop the vandalism that is going on in the area.”
Anyone who might have information on the crime is asked to call the club at (772) 287-5605.
