Man charged with assault using samurai sword in St. Lucie
August 14th, 2009 by TCPalm.comST. LUCIE COUNTY — A 48-year-old man accused of hitting another man with a samurai sword before bringing a second edged weapon into a Thursday night confrontation faces a felony charge, according to an arrest affidavit released Friday.
A woman told St. Lucie County Sheriff’s investigators that she and her ex-husband were dropping off her 62-year-old mother at her home in
the 13900 block of Encantado Circle north of Indrio Road when the mother’s boyfriend exited the residence with a samurai sword.
The daughter’s 31-year-old ex-husband said the alleged sword wielder, Timothy James Gent, 48, “yelled at him, who is going to beat my (backside)?” a report states.
The affidavit gave this account:
The daughter’s ex-husband told Gent there were no such plans before Gent struck him “a couple” of times with the sword.
The ex-husband said he hit Gent until he got the sword away. Gent then went back in the residence and came out with a knife, which he ditched when he saw law enforcement officials coming.
A deputy saw lacerations on the ex-husband’s head, face and arms, and he said he planned to go to the hospital on his own.
Gent, who had a swollen lip and “a lot” of blood on him, refused medical attention at the scene.
Gent was taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce before going to jail on a felony charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
