Fort Pierce man shot in genitals trying to save mom from pistol-whipping attacker

August 12th, 2009 by TCPalm.com

FORT PIERCE — About 6 p.m. Tuesday, the U.S. Marshall Fugitive Task Force arrested David Jerome Brown, 48, of the 500 block of North 27th Street in connection with a Monday night attack on a woman and shooting of her son.

Brown was apprehended at the corner of North 27th Street and Avenue G without incident, said Fort Pierce Detective Ben Thayer.

The male victim was shot in the genitals and his mother pistol whipped Monday night in a suspected domestic-related incident before the attacker fled in a pickup truck, according to a police report released Tuesday and a sergeant.

Priscilla Ann Harris, 46, was sitting in the back master bedroom in the 1100 block of Avenue G, appearing distraught, hysterial and bloody when an officer arrived.

She said a man “busted in” the residence around 9:15 p.m. and hit her in the head with a pistol. She told police the man kicked her when she was knocked to the ground.

Her son, identified as Rodrell Markeese Harris, 23, came in to stop the assault. The assailant allegedly turned and shot him once in the genitals before fleeing in a white GMC pickup truck.

“We have information that the suspect in this case had telephoned Priscilla numerous times prior to the shooting,” said police Sgt. Dennis McWilliams.

A report listed the suspect as an ex-spouse of Priscilla Harris.

Personnel at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute told police that the bullet passed through Rodrell Harris’ genitals before lodging in his left thigh.

Brown is facing attempted first degree murder with a firearm, aggravated battery-great harm by discharge of firearm, armed burglary of a dwelling, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and violation of an injunction. Bond was set at $650,000.
