Child falls on head in Port St. Lucie store, flown to trauma center

PORT ST. LUCIE — A 2 1/2-year-old girl was flown to a trauma center in critical condition Wednesday after falling from a shopping cart onto her head at a Walmart SuperCenter, a St. Lucie County Fire District spokeswoman said.

Fire District crews were called at 2:11 p.m. to the business on South U.S. 1 near Lennard Road, Fire District spokeswoman Catherine Chaney said.

The girl reportedly was standing in the cart when she fell and hit her head. Rescue officials met the child at the customer service area.

She was flown to a southern trauma center in critical condition.
