Fort Pierce man charged with aggravated assault; accused of ‘wildly’ chasing siblings with a shovel
July 31st, 2009 by TCPalm.comFORT PIERCE — Police arrested a 47-year-old man after he allegedly snatched an 11-year-old boy’s basketball and football and chased the boy and his sister with a shovel, according to recently released records.
Roger H. Willis reportedly has been dating the grandmother of the 11-year-old boy and his 21-year-old sister, the sister told police Wednesday.
The siblings were visiting the grandmother’s house and the 11-year-old boy played outside with the football and basketball, the sister said.
Willis, 47, reportedly was looking to talk with the grandmother, who reportedly “has been trying to avoid Willis whenever possible,” a report states.
Willis, described as “extremely intoxicated,” got upset and snatched the 11-year-old boy’s football and basketball. He held them up and said, “Come get these (expletive),” the sister told investigators.
The siblings followed Willis back to his home in the 3000 block of Avenue M, asking for the balls.
Willis reportedly pushed the sister and started yelling. He allegedly got a shovel and chased the siblings, “wildly” swinging the shovel.
Willis told investigators the 21-year-old sister came to his house without reason and began hitting him. He then said he’d been inside all night sleeping because he was drunk. A family member said Willis needed to cease drinking and “doing all of the foolishness.”
Police couldn’t find the basketball and football.
Willis faces two felony counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and misdemeanor charges of larceny and battery.
