Stuart community searches for elusive dog missing 16 days

July 28th, 2009 by TCPalm.com

STUART — Elise Schifano adopted 3-year-old Rudy in January and says the miniature collie has been part of the family ever since.

Sixteen days ago, though, when Schifano was taking Rudy to the vet, she opened the car door and he made his get-away.

He has been missing ever since.

Several people have caught a glimpse of Rudy around the neighborhood between 10th street and Ocean Boulevard.

Now, they have all gotten together, putting up dozens of signs and even setting up a trap with toys and treats.

So far though, the only thing they have caught is the next door neighbor’s dog.

Schifano has spotted Rudy on several occasions, but he does not respond to her calls.

Now Schifano is afraid she will not be able to catch him before he goes farther.

“He’s in what I call a flight mode. He’s scared and running away from people. The last time I saw him he had lost some weight.”

Schifano says if you see Rudy, please give her a call at (772) 215-9373.
