FP&L protestor gets 90 days in Martin County Jail
July 23rd, 2009 by Daphne DuretSTUART — One of several protesters arrested near a Florida Power and Light Co. plant during a protest near Indiantown earlier this year was sentenced to 90 days in jail today after a jury convicted her on resisting arrest charges.
The Martin County jury acquitted Stevie Lowe on trespassing charges related to the January incident at Barley Barber Swamp. Prosecutors say Lowe, of Lake Worth, chained herself to a tree and refused a Martin County sheriff’s deputy’s orders to leave the swamp at the FPL plant, forcing them to cut the chains with pliers.
Martin County Judge Stewart Hershey sentenced Lowe immediately after the jury verdict.
Several members of Everglades Earth First, the group that spearheaded the protest, attended the trial and said they will help Lowe appeal her conviction.
Lowe was booked into the Martin County Jail this evening.

If “The Martin County jury acquitted Stevie Lowe…”, how did she get 90 days? The system must work oddly in Martin County.
