Brandon C. Wester, a 22-year-old maintenance worker at the Club Med golf course, told police sex with the 41-year-old tourist was consensual and that he thought he was “doing her a favor” by sleeping with her.
He is being held at the St. Lucie County jail on a sexual battery charge in lieu of $150,000 bail.
The woman told police she was at a bar at the Sandpiper resort on Wednesday night. She had ordered a Mai Tai, danced with two Club Med employees, and then received another cocktail she hadn’t ordered before talking with two golf maintenance workers. When she asked who had ordered her the drink, no one answered her, she said.
The next morning her son woke her up and she realized she wasn’t feeling well. After she noticed she was bleeding, she began to remember small snippets of the previous night, she told police.
She remembered sitting on a beach chair with man who had a young-sounding American voice telling her, “You can do it, baby. You can do it.” She said she told him to stop and that he was hurting her.
She also recalled taking a shower with a white man.
Club Med employees told police they had seen and talked with the woman at about 11:30 that night and that she didn’t seem drunk.
One golf maintenance worker told investigators Wester, his co-worker, was drunk that night and the next morning bragged about having sex with a mother at the beach and later taking a shower in her room.
When questioned by police, Wester, a Hobe Sound resident, denied raping the woman.
He said the bruises that police found on her arms and back were from her falling several times throughout the night. He also said he had noticed she had some older bruises.
Investigators say it’s possible that the woman might have had drugs slipped into one of her drinks that night.

I have known Wester for over 10 years and have lots of doubts about this woman’s story. Going to a bar at 11:30 at night and ordering a drink that is made with 3+ ounces of alcohol would appear to be the actions of a woman on vacation looking to have a good time. Who starts drinking at almost midnight? She probably had a few before she got there, but I did not see that mentioned in the news article. When she was found by her son in the morning embarrassed looking to reclaim some dignity, she files a Police report. This is not intended to belittle the rape victims, but quite often woman file false Police reports to try to correct bad personal decisions. Before you pin a guilty charge on Brandon Wester, remember the Duke Lacrosse players.

I used to work at Sandpiper. While there I was witness to 3 cases of attempted rape. The first was when a fellow employee broke into a girls room with a stolen key. He attempted to rape her but she managed to fight him off. She was then told by the Chef de Village not to report it to the police and later stated they were actually having a lover’s spat. When she protested she was fired. A week later another girl also had a co-worker break into her room and attempt to rape her. She was also told to keep quiet. The third attempt was on one of the bartenders by one of the most trusted employees in the village. All cases were covered up by the then Chef de Village and the girls had to live with it. The general comment by the Sandpiper top brass? “Welcome to Club Med!”. This kind of stuff happens all the time in Club Med and the result is the same: Cover-up, denial, etc. It’s about time they get caught with their pants down.
