Two in St. Lucie arrested in counterfeiting scheme

FORT PIERCE — Two people were arrested Tuesday after deputies allegedly discovered tools used to make counterfeit money in their home, according to the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s office.
Deputies arrested Brenda Hopkins, 46, and Ronald Jensen, 51, both of Fort Pierce after serving a warrant for Hopkins at 6555 Yedra Ave. Hopkins tried to flee out a back door, but was taken into custody, according to an arrest report.
Deputies found Jensen in the bathroom with a toilet bowl full of burnt counterfeit $20s and a stack of folded counterfeit $20s on the back of the toilet, according to the report.
They also found a set-up of tools for making counterfeit money, including copier paper, ink, two gallons of chemicals, a computer and a cutting board. The box of paper had a sheet of printed $20s.
Deputies discovered 84 counterfeit $20s, 43 bleached $1s and one bleached $5, according to the report.
Jensen was arrested on charges of counterfeiting money, possessing tools for counterfeiting, and tampering with evidence. Hopkins was arrested on charges of counterfeiting money and possessing tools for counterfeiting.
Both were taken to the St. Lucie County jail.

Ron Jensen is a very talented musician and has been a friend of mine for a long time. He is a good man but I am deeply saddened by this awful lack of good judgement. I hope he learns from this. Ron, what were you thinking? You are so much better than that!
