STUART — The manager of a Dunkin’ Donuts has been arrested on theft charges after he admitted to taking more than $20,000 in cash from the store to purchase lottery tickets, according to police.
Port St. Lucie resident Eric Anderson, 22, faces felony charges of grand theft and scheming to coming fraud after his arrest on Tuesday.
According to a police report, an audit of the store on Ocean Boulevard revealed that someone had been inflating the store’s credit card sales in the accounting records. The activity allowed the suspect to balance out cash that had been removed from the register, the report states.
The modifications had been happening since June 2008 and more than $24,000 was missing, police said.
When questioned, Anderson, the store’s manager, said he was the one who changed the numbers so he could take the cash, police said.
Anderson told police he used most of the money to purchase lottery tickets.
