PORT ST. LUCIE — Two roommates were arrested on charges of attacking a man with a sword during a dispute Monday night.
Witnesses told St. Lucie County Sheriff’s deputies that William L. Luciano ran out of his home on Hidalgo Lane, chasing a man with a sword. He later went back inside and returned with another knife, the witnesses said.
Luciano slashed the man in his left arm, the witnesses said.
When investigators arrived at the scene, Luciano said he was trying to protect his roommate, Patricia D. Best, from the man.
Best told investigators she hid the knife’s sheath because she knew authorities were called.

Patricia Best
Luciano faces a felony charge of aggravated battery and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor. Best was arrested on charges being an accessory to a crime, tampering with evident and drug possession.
The man wounded with the cut was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
