Police remove Fort Pierce man from marijuana smoke-filled home
April 16th, 2009 by TCPalm.comFORT PIERCE — Sitting in a living room filled with marijuana smoke, Alfred Foster Welling III had a problem: St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office investigators executing a search warrant at his home.
Welling’s encounter with the law enforcers in the 1900 block of South 34th Street ended Thursday with his arrest on felony charges including cultivation of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent and possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana, according to recently obtained records.
Detectives found an alleged marijuana grow room in the southeast bedroom with four pot plants in a wood cabinet. Another metal cabinet contained liquid fertilizers, pots and soil but no plants, and both cabinets were outfitted with equipment including exhaust fans and grow lights with reflective hoods.
A closet in the grow room contained a safe with 2.6 ounces of marijuana, while a black backpack in a kitchen cabinet held about a pound of pot. Four glass marijuana “bongs” and other alleged drug-related items also were found.
Welling, 27, allegedly admitted to selling marijuana since December and growing pot for a month. He said his 24-year-old live-in girlfriend “had nothing to do with marijuana inside the residence.”
Welling was released from the St. Lucie County Jail the same day on $15,000 bail, a jail official said.

Four plants? That is pretty petty. Legalize the stuff. If he were “cooking” or selling cocaine and had all that I would say yeah, get his butt off the street. He was probably trying to support himself with state of the economy the way it is now I don’t blame him.
