Tornado warning cancelled for portions of St. Lucie County

April 14th, 2009 by Post Staff

The National Weather Service has canceled a tornado warning for the cities of Okeechobee, Fort Pierce Inlet, White City, the Port St. Lucie Nuclear Plant, Indrio and Walton.

The warning was extended to 2:45 p.m. but cancelled shortly before 2:30, according to the National Weather Service.

Severe thunderstorms barreling through the area at about 35 mph were creating the potential for tornadoes as well as coin-sized hail and straight-line winds, according to forecasters in the Melbourne office which oversees the Treasure Coast.
